Field Work
Field Work is the one project that's just mine. Every trip is a chance to record a musician somewhere: roots music, acoustic instruments, mostly, something I've started half-jokingly calling my own ethnomusicology project. It's the thing that keeps everything else honest.
Some of it is one afternoon with someone extraordinary. Some of it has more of an arc, like the run of videos from a tour. Some of it happens wherever I land, since a field recording is close to non-negotiable no matter the country. And once, it turned into a full documentary, made on assignment but cut from the same cloth: on-the-ground musical exploration that keeps pushing the rest of my work forward.
A camera, a mic, and a good song or story. That's all I really need, and hopefully enough to capture something magical.
