Rhiannon Giddens

In 2025, Rhiannon Giddens reunited with her former Carolina Chocolate Drops bandmate Justin Robinson for What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, eighteen fiddle-and-banjo tunes recorded outdoors on porches and homesteads across North Carolina, the sound of the place itself woven right into the tracks. The album earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album.

Being brought in by Rhiannon and her team to shoot it was an honor, one chapter in an ongoing video relationship with her: a mini-documentary that follows the record back to where it was made, plus a performance video for each of the eighteen songs, filmed on the same porches, in the same afternoon light.
